Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies 5th Summer Workshop

The Kyu­jang­gak Insti­tute for Kore­an Stud­ies will host its 5th Sum­mer Work­shop from July 4 to July 16, 2011. The work­shop presents an oppor­tu­ni­ty for grad­u­ate stu­dents and junior schol­ars to gain expo­sure to diverse dis­ci­plines and schol­ars of Kore­an stud­ies and to net­work with future col­leagues.

The work­shop will focus on research method­olo­gies and issues in Kore­an stud­ies through the exam­i­na­tion of doc­u­men­tary and dig­i­tal resources. The two-week com­pre­hen­sive pro­gram con­sists of lec­tures and sem­i­nar dis­cus­sions on sub­jects such as art, clas­si­cal and con­tem­po­rary lit­er­a­ture, pre­mod­ern and mod­ern his­to­ry, archi­tec­ture, and reli­gion.

All lec­tures and sem­i­nars will be con­duct­ed in Kore­an, and read­ing mate­r­i­al and hand­outs as well will be most­ly in Kore­an. Par­tic­i­pants will have a chance to present their research plans or pre­lim­i­nary find­ings at an infor­mal pre­sen­ta­tion ses­sion and will be able to con­sult with the lec­tur­ers on their research. Sev­er­al short field trips and vis­its will also be orga­nized.

The reg­is­tra­tion fee for the work­shop is US$500; a lim­it­ed num­ber of fee waiv­er grants and trav­el grants are avail­able. The appli­ca­tion dead­line is Feb­ru­ary 28, 2011. Accep­tance announce­ments will be made March 31, 2011. The final reg­is­tra­tion dead­line is April 30, 2011.
