First International Workshop for Korean Traditional Music

The Nation­al Gugak Cen­ter (for­mer­ly The Nation­al Cen­ter for Kore­an Tra­di­tion­al Per­form­ing Arts) will host the 1st Inter­na­tion­al Work­shop for Kore­an Tra­di­tion­al Music Octo­ber 18–30, 2010. The pro­gram will con­sist of lec­tures on Kore­an tra­di­tion­al music and dance and stu­dio work­shops in Kore­an tra­di­tion­al per­form­ing arts, includ­ing lessons on play­ing tra­di­tion­al musi­cal instru­ments.

Atten­dance is open to schol­ars and grad­u­ate stu­dents in the fields of musi­col­o­gy, eth­no­mu­si­col­o­gy, and edu­ca­tion who are inter­est­ed in Kore­an tra­di­tion­al music and to com­posers, pro­duc­ers, and coör­di­na­tors who are inter­est­ed in Kore­an tra­di­tion­al music and its pro­mo­tion over­seas. All par­tic­i­pants must be flu­ent in Eng­lish, and the num­ber of par­tic­i­pants is lim­it­ed. A reg­is­tra­tion fee of $200 is required for those who are select­ed to par­tic­i­pate. The Nation­al Gugak Cen­ter will pro­vide accom­mo­da­tions, food, and round-trip (econ­o­my class) trans­porta­tion.
