Call for Papers: Years of Radical Change (2) at SOAS

The School of Ori­en­tal and African Stud­ies Cen­tre for Kore­an Stud­ies at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Lon­don, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the SOAS Cen­tre for Film and Screen Stud­ies, invites pro­pos­als for pre­sen­ta­tions at “Years of Rad­i­cal Change (2): SOAS Con­fer­ence on Kore­an Screen Cul­ture,” to be held May 31 to June 1, 2013, with sup­port from the Acad­e­my for Kore­an Stud­ies.

Sug­gest­ed top­ics include South and North Kore­an cin­e­ma past and present, ani­mé, tele­vi­sion dra­mas, gov­ern­ment pol­i­cy toward cul­tur­al pro­duc­tion, film fes­ti­vals, video games, inter­tex­tu­al­i­ty and the influ­ence of Kore­an cin­e­ma on Hol­ly­wood, the Kore­an wave (hal­lyu) in Asia and beyond, and Kore­an pop­u­lar music videos. Papers on oth­er forms of Kore­an pop­u­lar cul­ture will also be con­sid­ered.

Pro­pos­als (for indi­vid­ual papers as well as pan­el pro­pos­als) should include the name, insti­tu­tion­al affil­i­a­tion, title of the paper, 400-word abstract, and 100-word biog­ra­phy of the author. Pro­pos­als should be sent by Jan­u­ary 31, 2013, to Andrew David Jack­son at For select­ed pro­pos­als, com­plet­ed papers of 5,500 to 6,000 words must be sub­mit­ted by April 20, 2013.
