Academy of Korean Studies Advertises Research Grants

image: AKS logoThe Acad­e­my of Kore­an Stud­ies (AKS) is cur­rent­ly invit­ing appli­ca­tions for two grant pro­grams: The AKS Research Grant and the AKS The­sis Grant.

Research Grants are avail­able for the peri­od from Sep­tem­ber 1, 2013, to Feb­ru­ary 28, 2014. These grants pro­vide a month­ly allowance of KRW900,000; round-trip air­fare at actu­al expense; and access to the AKS facil­i­ties, includ­ing the library and Jangseogak Archives.

Grant recip­i­ents must either enroll in at least one full-time course at the AKS or attend one-to-one pri­vate lessons with an aca­d­e­m­ic advi­sor cho­sen at appli­ca­tion time; remain in Korea and con­cen­trate on their research dur­ing the grant peri­od; and, at the end of the grant peri­od, sub­mit a report sum­ma­riz­ing their research find­ings and an eval­u­a­tion report writ­ten by their aca­d­e­m­ic advi­sor.

The AKS The­sis Grant offers awards of KRW3,000,000 (first prize) and KRW1,000,000 (sec­ond prize). Appli­cants must be cur­rent­ly enrolled in a bachelor’s, master’s, or doc­tor­al degree pro­gram in the field of Kore­an stud­ies at an over­seas uni­ver­si­ty and must reside out­side of Korea at the time of appli­ca­tion. The appli­ca­tion dead­line is Sep­tem­ber 30, 2013.
