Lecturer in Korean Language Sought at UMass Amherst

The Uni­ver­si­ty of Mass­a­chu­setts Amherst seeks appli­cants for a three-year renew­able full-time lec­ture­ship in Kore­an lan­guage (six cours­es per year) begin­ning in fall 2012. The suc­cess­ful can­di­date will be pre­pared to offer cours­es in ele­men­tary, inter­me­di­ate, and advanced Kore­an language.

The select­ed appli­cant will be a joint appointee in the Five Col­lege Kore­an Lan­guage Pro­gram and will be based in the Depart­ment of Lan­guages, Lit­er­a­tures, and Cul­tures on the Uni­ver­si­ty of Mass­a­chu­setts Amherst cam­pus. Joint appointees nor­mal­ly teach on more than one cam­pus. Salary is com­men­su­rate with qual­i­fi­ca­tions and experience.

Qual­i­fi­ca­tions: Native or near-native flu­en­cy in Kore­an and Eng­lish. The aca­d­e­m­ic field of spe­cial­iza­tion should be in a field of lan­guage edu­ca­tion such as TESOL or lin­guis­tics and edu­ca­tion. Ph.D. pre­ferred, master’s degree required as is at least one year of expe­ri­ence teach­ing Kore­an at a col­lege-lev­el institution.

Five Col­leges, Incor­po­rat­ed, is a con­sor­tium com­pris­ing Amherst, Hamp­shire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Col­leges and the Uni­ver­si­ty of Mass­a­chu­setts, Amherst. The five insti­tu­tions are locat­ed with­in eleven miles of one anoth­er and about eighty miles west of Boston in the Con­necti­cut Riv­er valley.
