Korean Studies Position at the University of North Carolina

UNC arts and sciences logoThe Depart­ment of Asian Stud­ies at the Uni­ver­si­ty of North Car­oli­na, Chapel Hill (http://asianstudies.unc.edu), invites appli­ca­tions for a tenure-track posi­tion in Kore­an stud­ies at the rank of assis­tant pro­fes­sor, to begin July 1, 2018. Duties include teach­ing, research, and ser­vice. Par­tic­i­pa­tion in the con­tin­ued devel­op­ment of the Department’s pro­gram in Kore­an stud­ies is expected.

The Depart­ment wel­comes appli­cants with doc­tor­al degree in hand or near com­ple­tion in Kore­an stud­ies, Kore­an lan­guage and lit­er­a­ture, or a relat­ed field such as, but not lim­it­ed to, anthro­pol­o­gy, mod­ern his­to­ry, qual­i­ta­tive soci­ol­o­gy, cul­tur­al stud­ies, gen­der stud­ies, visu­al stud­ies, or per­for­mance studies. 

Native or near-native flu­en­cy in Kore­an and Eng­lish and demon­strat­ed poten­tial for inno­v­a­tive schol­ar­ship are required.

Appli­cants will also be required to iden­ti­fy the names, titles, and e-mail address­es of four pro­fes­sion­al ref­er­ences at the time of appli­ca­tion. Rec­om­menders iden­ti­fied by the appli­cant will be con­tact­ed via e-mail with instruc­tions for upload­ing their let­ters of recommendation.

Review of appli­ca­tions will begin Novem­ber 8, 2017. The search will remain open until the posi­tion is filled.
