International Faculty Positions at SNU College of Liberal Studies

Seoul National University seeks to fill two international faculty positions in its College of Liberal Studies. The College of Liberal Studies was created in 2009 and based on a model in which students are encouraged to pursue academic careers in a variety of tracks and declare majors only after one or two years of liberal education. Students are encouraged to design customized curricula that may combine courses from more than one discipline. This enables students to widen their insight across disciplinary boundaries. (For more information, see http://www.useoul.edu)

The College of Liberal Studies does not rely on a fixed set of courses but offers instruction in what are loosely defined as Selected Topics Seminars. For this reason, applicants for faculty positions are required to demonstrate their ability to develop new courses within this scheme.

Qualifications for the open positions include a doctoral degree, excellent competence in oral and written English, publications commensurate with rank, excellent teaching credentials, citizenship other than that of the Republic of Korea (international faculty recruitment is intended for scholars who are non-Korean citizens).

Applicants should submit a personal statement, two teaching plans for “Selected Topics Seminar II or III,” a research plan, and a curriculum vitae (including a list of published materials including books and papers, title of doctorial dissertation, and contact information for at least three professional references). The selection process will emphasize course and research plans. Applicants chosen for further process will be informed.
