Forum on Critical Issues in Korean Studies Presents Jang Jip Choi

Jang Jip Choi, an emi­nent schol­ar of Kore­an pol­i­tics, will be the fea­tured speak­er in the Cen­ter for Kore­an Stud­ies Forum on Crit­i­cal Issues in Kore­an Stud­ies Thurs­day, Jan­u­ary 28, 2010.

Choi is emer­i­tus pro­fes­sor of polit­i­cal sci­ence at Korea Uni­ver­si­ty, author of many well-known books, and for­mer direc­tor of the Asi­at­ic Research Insti­tute at Korea Uni­ver­si­ty. His top­ic for the forum is “Demo­c­ra­t­ic State Engulf­ing Civ­il Soci­ety in Korea: The Ironies of Kore­an Democracy.” 

Choi will speak in the Cen­ter for Kore­an Stud­ies audi­to­ri­um begin­ning at 4:00 p.m. The pro­gram will also include dis­cus­sion by Uni­ver­si­ty of Hawai‘i at Mānoa pro­fes­sors Jung­min Seo (polit­i­cal sci­ence) and Hagen Koo (soci­ol­o­gy).
