East Asian Film Society Presenting “The 19 Year Old’s Map”

The University of Hawaii at Manoa East Asian Film Society will screen the film The 19 Year Old’s Map (1979) as part of its series “The Films of Mitsuo Yanagimachi” Thursday, January 20, 2011. The film, in Japanese with English subtitles, will be shown at 5:00 p.m. in Sinclair Library Room 110 on the UH Manoa campus.

The 19 Year Old’s Map follows the story of a 19-year-old newspaper delivery boy who begins collecting information on the households in his neighborhood and keeping a journal of why he doesn’t like them. Declaring himself a “right-winger” and calling in bomb threats against the neighbors he doesn’t like, he begins a war of psychological terror against the families in his neighborhood.
