Discussion Agenda Includes Impact of Military and Tourism on Jeju Island

imageThe Cen­ter for Kore­an Stud­ies and oth­er local orga­ni­za­tions will present “Islands of Peace — Casu­al­ties of War,” a pan-Pacif­ic dis­cus­sion on the impacts of mil­i­tarism and tourism on the islands of Jeju, Hawai’i, and Guam, April 25, 2013. The event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Kamakakūokalani Cen­ter for Hawai­ian Stud­ies on the UH Mānoa Cam­pus. It is free and open to all.

Speak­ers on the pro­gram include:

  • Jeong Young-hee, chair­woman of the Women Vil­lagers’ Com­mit­tee to Stop the Naval Base in Gang­jeong, South Korea,
  • Ili­ma Long, M.A. stu­dent in Hawai­ian Stud­ies and HauMĀ­NA mem­ber, and
  • Ken Gofi­gan Kuper, M.A. stu­dent in Pacif­ic Island stud­ies from Guam.
