CKS Scholarships for 2011 – 2012 Academic Year Announced

The Cen­ter for Kore­an Stud­ies will award near­ly $100,000 in schol­ar­ships for stu­dents engaged in Korea-relat­ed stud­ies at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Hawaii at Manoa dur­ing the 2011 – 2012 aca­d­e­m­ic year. The schol­ar­ship cat­e­gories and the recip­i­ents are list­ed below.

The Cen­ter will pro­vide finan­cial sup­port ($3,500) for Asian stud­ies stu­dent Xiayi Ze to attend the 4th Korea- Amer­i­ca Stu­dent Con­fer­ence, which will be held at sev­er­al aca­d­e­m­ic insti­tu­tions in Korea in July.

In addi­tion, fed­er­al­ly fund­ed For­eign Lan­guage and Area Stud­ies fel­low­ships, which pro­vide a stipend and tuition, will be award­ed to sev­en stu­dents. Full-year schol­ar­ships will go to: Emi­ly Ann Kim Kessel (Flag­ship pro­gram), Anna Lee (Flag­ship pro­gram), and Alisa Marie Mod­i­ca (Flag­ship pro­gram). Sup­port for sum­mer lan­guage study under the same pro­gram will go to: Jon­nathan DeLa­Fuente (Asian stud­ies), Patrick Thomas Hig­gins (Flag­ship pro­gram), Lako­ta Que­va­da Qua­nah (Kore­an), and Matthew James Winchell (Asian studies).
