The School of Oriental and African Studies Centre for Korean Studies at the University of London, in collaboration with the SOAS Centre for Film and Screen Studies, invites proposals for presentations at “Years of Radical Change (2): SOAS Conference on Korean Screen Culture,” to be held May 31 to June 1, 2013, with support from the Academy for Korean Studies.
Suggested topics include South and North Korean cinema past and present, animé, television dramas, government policy toward cultural production, film festivals, video games, intertextuality and the influence of Korean cinema on Hollywood, the Korean wave (hallyu) in Asia and beyond, and Korean popular music videos. Papers on other forms of Korean popular culture will also be considered.
Proposals (for individual papers as well as panel proposals) should include the name, institutional affiliation, title of the paper, 400-word abstract, and 100-word biography of the author. Proposals should be sent by January 31, 2013, to Andrew David Jackson at firstname.lastname@example.org. For selected proposals, completed papers of 5,500 to 6,000 words must be submitted by April 20, 2013.
