Call for Papers: 19th Japanese/​Korean Linguistics Conference

The 19th Japanese/​Korean Lin­guis­tics Con­fer­ence will be held Novem­ber 12–14, 2009, at the Cen­ter for Kore­an Stud­ies of the Uni­ver­si­ty of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in Hon­olu­lu. This con­fer­ence aims to pro­vide a forum for the pre­sen­ta­tion of research from any lin­guis­tic sub­dis­ci­pline that con­tributes to our under­stand­ing of the struc­ture of Japan­ese and Kore­an or the struc­ture of lin­guis­tic theory.

Abstracts are solicit­ed for 20-minute pre­sen­ta­tions (fol­lowed by 10 min­utes for dis­cus­sion) on any sub­field of Japan­ese or Kore­an linguistics.

Anony­mous, max­i­mal­ly two-page abstracts (in a font no small­er than 11 pt.), writ­ten in Eng­lish, should be sub­mit­ted as PDF attach­ments to an e-mail mes­sage addressed to jk19uhm@gmail.com.

The sub­ject line of the e-mail mes­sage should read: “abstract” fol­lowed by the (first) author’s last name and first ini­tial, in that order. In the body of the e-mail mes­sage, please pro­vide the fol­low­ing information:

  1. The cat­e­go­ry (for­mal or func­tion­al) and sub­field (syn­tax, seman­tics, prag­mat­ics, etc.) of the abstract (e.g., “Formal/Syntax,” “Functional/Discourse”
  2. The full title of the abstract
  3. The name(s) of the author(s)
  4. The affiliation(s) of the author(s)
  5. The con­tact infor­ma­tion for the author(s).

A max­i­mum of one sin­gle-authored abstract and one co-authored abstract may be sub­mit­ted per person.

Pan­els and Workshops

The con­fer­ence orga­niz­ers also invite pro­pos­als for pan­els and work­shops to be held dur­ing the con­fer­ence peri­od. Pan­els and work­shops may be on any top­ic on Japan­ese or Kore­an lin­guis­tics or lan­guage ped­a­gogy or gen­er­al lin­guis­tic the­o­ries and method­olo­gies. Max­i­mal­ly two-page sum­maries (in a font no small­er than 11 pt.), writ­ten in Eng­lish, should be sub­mit­ted as PDF attach­ments to an e-mail mes­sage addressed to jk19uhm@gmail.com.

The sub­ject line of the e-mail mes­sage should read: “panel” or “workshop” fol­lowed by the (first) organizer’s last name and first ini­tial, in that order. In the body of the e-mail mes­sage, please pro­vide the fol­low­ing information:

  1. The full title of the pan­el or workshop
  2. The names of the presenters
  3. The affiliation(s) of the presenters
  4. The con­tact infor­ma­tion for the presenters.

Dead­lines

The dead­line for sub­mis­sion of abstracts and panel/​workshop sum­maries is July 1, 2009.

Authors and panel/​workshop orga­niz­ers will be noti­fied of accep­tance of their abstracts and pro­pos­als in ear­ly Sep­tem­ber 2009.
