AKS summer program for international studentsThe Acad­e­my of Kore­an Stud­ies has announced its 26th Sum­mer Pro­gram for Inter­na­tion­al Stu­dents. Part of the Academy’s mis­sion to cul­ti­vate young lead­ers in Kore­an stud­ies, the pro­gram com­bines spe­cial lec­tures on Korea, inten­sive Kore­an lan­guage instruc­tion, field trips, excur­sions, and tra­di­tion­al cul­tur­al activ­i­ties.

The sum­mer 2018 pro­gram will be held for four weeks from July 9 to August 3. Pro­gram activ­i­ties are con­duct­ed in Kore­an and Eng­lish. Apart from some Eng­lish lec­tures, how­ev­er, most of the pro­gram will be in Kore­an. There­fore par­tic­i­pants should pos­sess basic Kore­an lan­guage skills.

The pro­gram is open to under­grad­u­ate stu­dents of sec­ond year or above from uni­ver­si­ties abroad who are major­ing or minor­ing in Kore­an stud­ies and those who have tak­en Korea-related cours­es at their uni­ver­si­ties. Stu­dents in grad­u­ate school and those who hold Kore­an nation­al­i­ty are not eli­gi­ble for this pro­gram.

The Acad­e­my of Kore­an Stud­ies will cov­er the cost of reg­is­tra­tion, lec­tures, accom­mo­da­tions, and meals dur­ing the pro­gram as well as expens­es incurred dur­ing field trips and excur­sions. Par­tic­i­pants are respon­si­ble for their own trav­el expens­es includ­ing round-trip air­fare, trans­porta­tion fee between air­port and AKS, and med­ical insur­ance.

Appli­ca­tions are being accept­ed until Fri­day, Feb­ru­ary 16, 2018, at 24:00. Appli­ca­tions received after the dead­line (Korea Stan­dard Time) will not be con­sid­ered.

Along with the appli­ca­tion form, prospec­tive par­tic­i­pants must sub­mit offi­cial uni­ver­si­ty tran­scripts; the “Kore­an Pro­fi­cien­cy Eval­u­a­tion Sheet” includ­ed in the appli­ca­tion form (no.7); one let­ter of ref­er­ence (sent direct­ly to by the rec­om­mender); and, option­al­ly, a score report for the Kore­an Pro­fi­cien­cy Test (TOPIK). Any doc­u­ment not writ­ten in Kore­an or Eng­lish should include a trans­la­tion into one of those lan­guages.

The required doc­u­ments, except the let­ter of rec­om­men­da­tion, should be com­bined into one PDF file and sent to with the sub­ject line: “Appli­ca­tion Doc­u­ments for the 26th AKS Sum­mer Pro­gram for Inter­na­tion­al Students_Name of the Appli­cant.”
